A short while ago, The Cape Town Planning Blog was in its infancy. Today, it’s a teenager, with the swagger and rebellious attitude that I had in my teens 😉 At this rate, it will be fully-grown by the end of 2024, though not quite as old as the almost 40-year-old Town Planner writing this content 😊
The focus of the Blog (for the moment) is Cape Town Land Use Management. This will pivot to reflections on the Cape Town Spatial Planning and Property Market scenes, as the year progresses.
The most recent pieces are “Good Old-Fashioned Title Deed Restrictive Conditions” (31 March 2024) and “Administrative Penalty Town Planning Pains”. The latter was originally written in 2021, and updated on 31 March 2024. I’m currently working on a number of these (somewhat painful) applications. Totally losing count of the grey hairs I’m gaining in the process 😉
There are two other good reads on here, namely “The Great (Se)migration: Cape Town Bound” and “The Slow, Painful Death of the Office”. The latter was relevant at the time it was written (slowly inching out of the pandemic years), but with a growing (albeit slowly) economy, the trend is 100% reversing. Still, it stands as a reminder of that cold, shadowy, and uncertain time.
The other links are ‘place holders’ that I’ll turn into complete articles in 2024. My aim is to have 15 articles whacked out by the end of the year.
I generally use creative and academic writing as tools to vent my professional frustrations. I’m using this Blog as an opportunity to do just that. I love that it gives me a chance to write in the relaxed and less formal way that I (sometimes) wish I could when putting together Town Planning applications 😊
The next three articles will be:
