Tasyam Govender, the Person

I’m a Town Planner, based in Cape Town. I’ve been practicing for close to a decade, submitting development applications across the municipality, and beyond. I am - first and foremost - a fixer. Someone who can set a gameplan for how to get development rights in place for a particular project, and who can follow through and ensure its success. All development projects (irrespective of how big or small), just need a strong fixer. Someone to come in, sort out the mess, and get stuff done. That’s me, that’s what I do, that’s what I’m good at 😉

Personally, I’m a lot of fun to work with. I’m charming and kind (a true KZN Midlands gentleman at heart), with a naughty and subversive streak, wit, and jokes for days.

Tasyam Govender Town Planner, the Practice

I started my career in other private practices 12 years ago (in beautiful old Durban for a brief moment, and thereafter here in Cape Town). After racking up years of training and professional experience (and honestly more Town Planning application approvals than I can count), I set up my own Town Planning practice 3 and a half years ago. I spend my days putting together development proposals and Town Planning applications from the comfort of my own home. I couldn’t be happier 😊

I practice from the beautiful leafy Southern Suburbs (Kenilworth), but work on projects across Cape Town. On the odd occasion - when projects are exciting enough to pull me over the municipal boundary - I work in neighbouring municipalities as well.

The Work I Do

I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked on a wide range of spatial planning projects and land use management applications over the years, for the public and private sectors. While I’ve worked on and successfully concluded several large projects (some of provincial and even national significance), I also love working at the other end of the spectrum, for individual families and small businesses. I therefore maintain a balanced portfolio of small, medium, and large projects, year-in and year-out. Town Planning Services

All Land Use Management (LUM) applications - Rezonings, Consent Uses, Departures, Subdivisions, Consolidations, Removal / Relaxation of Title Deed Restrictive Conditions, Administrative Penalties, and other Town Planning applications of a technical nature.
Town Planning analysis, feasibility, and recommendations reports.
Site layout plans and development concepts.
Project co-ordination services: This includes assembling small to large multidisciplinary professional teams, and administrating the outputs of team members. I partner with other built environment professionals on a project-to-project basis, including architects and landscape architects; traffic, civil, electrical, structural, geotechnical, and acoustics engineers; land surveyors; heritage and environmental consultants; and conveyancing, sectional title, and other attorneys.

This is less of a principle, and more integral to who I am as a built environment (Town Planning) professional. Coming from creative backgrounds in the arts and in architecture, I inherently tackle all problems with a creative flair.

Certifications and Registrations

I’m University of Cape Town trained (Bachelor of Architectural Studies in 2011, and Master of City and Regional Planning in 2014).
I’m registered as a Professional Planner with the South African Council for Planners. My registration number is A/2571/2017.
